I have read some of the older threads on sea hood repairs and if someone who has done theirs maybe can give me some more insight.
Our sea hood appeared to be a little spongy when we stepped on it as well when ever it rained we were getting a lot of water running in the two troughs at the rear of the companion way which would make it difficult to keep dry as the cockpit cushions and seats would get soaked.
I removed the sea hood prior to putting the winter cover on. I stripped the underside today. The underside fiberglass layer was loose on about 1/2 of it so a little grinding and off it came.
The plywood underneath was all wet and pretty punky in some spots. It came off pretty easy as there seemed to be very little epoxy or fiberglass holding it to the hood

Friends have had numerous discussions about how to store gas tanks with the gasoline that is now required to have 10% ethanol (called E-10 Gas). For potable gas tanks I just pour the gas into my car and leave the tanks totally empty over the winter. For gas tanks (such as on a boat) that can’t be emptied and stored inside, this article gives some very good input.
We should always add stabilizer to any gas tank that isn’t going to be totally used in six weeks, which I understand is the ‘shelf life’ of gasoline that we purchase at the local gas station. I always add stabilizer to the outboard gas and any other small engine gas tanks, even in the summer. Actually I also add diesel stabilizer every time I fill the boat fuel tank as well, but that is a different subject.
The last paragraph has a

My husband and I are in the process of buying a 2004 Catalina 387. The boat has a microwave sitting on the counter that does not fit the space in the cabinetry.. Now that I am reading this discussion from 3 years ago, I am wondering if it will be possible to replace it with one that fits. Any suggestion?
Thanks,
Sharon Pierce
Sharon,
When I looked last year, I found one that fit. I ended up with an Emerson. The issue I had was mounting it securely. I ended up mounting the microwave to a piece of plywood, then attaching the plywood to the bottom of the cabinet.

I just had to replace mine this year as well. I found one at Wal-Mart for about $79 that fit right into the cabinet without any modifications. The only thing I had to do was drill

I do not want to sew them myself. Does anyone know a company that can make them?
Thanks,

call Annie at 903-523-5994. Tell her you want some hatch covers like she just made for Woody’s 387. She is in Gordonville.

Sharon, I purchased my canvas hatch covers from JSI in St. Petersburg, FL. They make all canvas and cushions for our Cat 387s. They were able to go to Catalina Factory and make the correct sizes. They were not cheap, but well worth it. Well constructed. I’ve had mine for about 6 years.

Our 2004 C-387, new to us, looks like it could use some interior teak cleaning. I was told by the broker that it has a water-based varnish inside. What product should we use to clean it? My husband bought some kind of oil at West Marine. Doesn’t seem like oil is the right thing? We need to clean it and there may be places where we need to touch up the interior varnish. Interior, not exterior.
I use Zinolin Furniture Oil (Polish) which was recommended by my prior owner. It works great treating the wood but not leaving an oily residue. I bought mine at Dania Furniture which handles scandinavian style furniture and is for teak and other hard wood materials. I use

We just bought a C-387 and I ordered sheets from the Catalina Store. They told me I could also get mattress pads. Hum. Wish I had seen this first. I know the sheets will fit exactly, so now I think I’d better order the mattress pads from them too. On to quilts and blankets….looks like Queen for the aft. What size for the v-berth? My husband thinks we will have to modify the v-berth quilts and blankets or they won’t be too bulky in the bow?
And we need multiple layers, as he is hot and I am cold, Of course!
We are a bit rusty. Haven’t owned a boat in 17 years! Thanks for any help…

We covered each mattress with a queen fitted mattress pad and a fitted sheet with a color that compliments the interior colors, then bought Travasak sleep systems. It looks

I made a folding seat platform from wood that I hook to the boarding ladder when I want to sit. It folds flat and stores in either the lazarette or on the deck bungee strapped to the stern pulpit. I place a standard floating boat cushion on top for comfort. I do not carry the helm seat or cushion on board at all. It’s at home over the garage where it has sat for the past couple of years. I found it was always in the way and unpractical to sit on.
Seems that when sitting on the helm seat, even with the oversized cushion, forward visibility left a lot to be desired, so I found myself standing most of the time, which

We noticed on our cruise that my Raymarine C80 was displaying incorrect tide and current data. Traced it down to the Raystar 125 GPS sensor which was having Deja Vu, and believed it was still 2AM in 1983. This was kind of insidious since you don’t note that the time and date information is off unless you check the GPS status page on my C80. That and the current was clearly against us when it was supposed to be with us. We picked up on this right away thanks to several smart phones being used on board.
After checking around…several experts indicated that this is a known problem, due to a design flaw and a buffer overflow. While Raymarine acknowledged that this was true of the older Raystar 120, they denied it applied to the newer 125, and that it must be failing. I wonder how forthright Raymarine is being

Foreign Affair is now in the Seattle area. She traveled 3000 miles to her new home. For those of you who had questions about trucking, we had a great experience with Sky Services http://www.skyservicesinc.com/ . To say Craig went above and beyond would be an understatement. Sam was already in Everett and I was on my own getting the boat ready. Craig willingly and enthusiastically helped. He is very personable and easy going. Being a fellow sailor, he understood that the easiest way was not necessarily the easiest for me. He took great care to make me feel comfortable.
Kudos to Jim Turner for his strong recommendation. We couldn’t have made a better choice.

I am in the process of having the rudder replaced as the original one bent and sheared at the post. Apparently there is a design flaw that was corrected at some point. The post for the new rudder has about 150% wall thickness as the old one. Our rudders are the same oned used on the C400. A friend of mine with a C42 who recently completed the Pacific Cup race replaced his rudder as a precaution after reading about a number of failures. The old design used a tube with thinner walls and a second tube inserted into that tube. The weld for the second tube happened to be right at the entry point into the lower bearing where all the load is. CY now makes them without the inner tube and just a thicker walled single tube. I am referring to the rudders used with the fin keel
